About Me

Nicola Gunstone

I bring more than 25 years of commercial leadership experience across global PLCs, SMEs and entrepreneurial businesses, including regional directorships across Europe and Asia Pacific, C-Suite roles, non-executive work, and the founding and exit of two startups.

That experience means I understand the pressures that come with leading a business, making difficult decisions, managing growth and carrying responsibility for people, performance and results.

Today, I work with CEOs, founders, senior leaders and leadership teams who want to think more clearly, lead more effectively and build stronger businesses.

How my experience shapes the way
I work

I have spent much of my career making decisions about growth, people, structure and performance, often without perfect information and with real consequences for the business. That experience shapes how I work with leaders now.

I tend to look beyond the issue that first appears in the room. A performance problem may be about structure, accountability or capability. A confidence issue may be affecting decisions or relationships. A team problem may be rooted in the way the wider system is working.

I bring that commercial and systemic perspective into the coaching room, alongside a straight-talking style and a strong belief that capable leaders do their best thinking when they are challenged rather than rescued.

The work is practical, reflective and grounded in what is actually happening in the business.

Credentials and recognition

My coaching practice is underpinned by internationally recognised professional standards and more than 3,000 hours of coaching experience.

I’m an ICF PCC accredited executive coach, an EMCC Global Senior Practitioner, and hold AOEC Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner Diplomas, alongside an AOEC Team Coaching Certificate. I’m also an NLP Coach and a member of the ICF.

Over the past nine years, I’ve coached CEOs, founders and senior leaders across a wide range of business challenges, alongside working with leadership teams and facilitating groups.

I was also named Chair of the Year for my work with CEOs and business leaders.

For me, the value of those accreditations is not the letters after my name. It is the discipline, supervision and ongoing development behind them, and the confidence that clients are working with someone who combines professional coaching standards with substantial commercial experience.

Why this work matters

I enjoy working with leaders who are prepared to think hard about the way they lead, the business they are building and the impact they have on the people around them.

Part of why this matters so much to me is personal. Earlier in my career, there were times when I was struggling and had to work things out largely on my own. I made mistakes, received some hard feedback and learnt a great deal from both.

Those experiences shaped the way I lead and the way I coach now. They taught me that growth takes honesty, self-awareness and, at times, the courage to be vulnerable.

That is the balance I want to help other leaders find too, the confidence to lead decisively and the openness to keep developing.

The work is often demanding, sometimes uncomfortable and usually very practical. What makes it worthwhile is seeing leaders become clearer, more confident in their judgement and more intentional about the businesses and teams they are creating.
